Brunswick Partnership for Housing Names Learned Executive Director

Brunswick Partnership for Housing (BPH) has named Sally T. Learned as its first executive director. A founder and current board chair, Learned was instrumental in the creation of BPH. As an ordained deacon in the Episcopal Church, she serves at St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church in Southport, North Carolina. Through her service, she became aware of the homelessness issue in Brunswick County. She, along with community church leaders and the Southport-Oak Island Interchurch Fellowship, worked together to establish the Winter Shelter program. It has provided seasonal housing for homeless families over the last five years. “It quickly became clear there was a serious need in our community,” said Learned, “notably, those families who are homeless through no fault of their own and need transitional housing to help them get back on their feet. Through BPH we provide hope for these families along with coordinated support services.”

Learned has built a career focused on service to her community. A graduate of Duke University, she was community director for housing and economic development programs throughout the state. She served as executive director for Repay, Inc., a non-profit, community-based criminal justice agency serving Burke, Caldwell, Catawba and McDowell counties in North Carolina. Later she led the Burke County United Way. Most recently she was Development and Human Resources officer for Catawba Valley Behavioral Health/Catawba Valley Health Care where she was responsible for grant writing, the annual fund, human resources and program development.

Established in 2019, Brunswick Partnership for Housing is the only nonprofit organization in Brunswick County addressing the need for transitional housing and advocating for affordable housing. BPH seeks to provide a stable living environment for families seeking a permanent housing solution.
