Brunswick Partnership for Housing (BPH) announces the launch of its Capital Campaign. Its goal is to raise $600,000 over two years.
The funds will be used to renovate its recently acquired property in Southport into four apartments and offices, make improvements to the building site, retire the mortgage and cover program operating expenses.
Established in 2019, BPH is the only nonprofit organization in the county addressing the need for transitional housing that provides a stable living environment for families who are homeless through no fault of their own. Families in transitional housing programs are supported with an array of community services to get them back on their feet and into permanent housing.
In 2019, nearly 900 Brunswick County families faced evictions and foreclosures. Faced with the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 could tell a dramatically different story. Many more families will become homeless if the Governor’s eviction moratorium is not extended beyond January 31, 2021. “This is a time when we look for our community to come together and build hope for families,” said Sally Learned, BPH board chair.
Working with city leaders, the First National Bank and the Southport Oak Island Interfaith Fellowship, work is under way to ready the property. BPH has already received generous donations to begin these renovations. “We are meeting with the contractor and developing a work schedule. However, the pace of work will depend upon the funds raised through contributions from individuals, families, civic groups, area businesses, as well as foundation and corporate grants,” said Learned.
